Call of the Month

Patrollers reported a male concealing large rocks inside a beverage container, and then placing that container in the path of traffic in front of 1945 Indianola. CPD was notified via 645-4545. CPD Cars S-4, S-23, 239, and 42 responded to the scene. The male fled the area. Responding officers relocated the male in the area of Waldeck and Iuka. The patrollers responded to the scene and positively identified the male. The male was issued a citation.

9-15-11

Patrollers were approached by a male with a deep wound in his knee requesting medical assistance in the area of 15th and Pearl. The Columbus Fire Department was notified of the situation. CFD Medic 13, CPD Cars 44, and 9040 responded to the scene. Medic 13 treated the male’s wound, and CPD Car 9040 escorted the male to his residence. No further action was taken.

9-16-11

Patrollers reported a fight involving several males in the area of 15th and Pearl. One of the males left the area. The patrollers notified CPD Car 44 of the situation. CPD officers detained an individual who matched the description of the fleeing male. One by one, people involved in the altercation were taken to the male to positively identify him as the fleeing male. CPD did not press charged as the individuals were not able to positively identify the male. The individuals advised the patrollers they intended on pressing charges on the male. No further action was taken.

9-20-11

Patrollers reported a fight involving two males in the area of 15th and Pearl. CPD Car 9041 and 48 were notified. CPD Car 48 arrived on the scene and diffused the situation. It was determined that the individuals were driving down the road when the altercation began. The driver of the vehicle pulled over and left the area on foot. CPD Car 48 advised the patrollers that the vehicle will be impounded because the driver could not be located.

The patrollers advised that the male was entering 750 Sullivant. CPD Car 84 arrived on the scene talked with both parties. The male was told to gather his belongings and leave the area, while the female was escorted to her residence. No further action was taken.

Patrollers reported a small fire in the wiring on a telephone pole in front of 145 Lucas. The Columbus Fire Department was notified of the situation. CFD Engine 3 and a City of Columbus electrician responded to the scene. The electrician turned off the power.

What do these mean?

The CCP Trail & Parks Safety Program patrols the Metro Parks Greenway trails along the Olentangy River, as well as the Alum Creek Trail. Patrollers are out on the trail on mountain bikes five days a week (weather permitting) in order to provide an added measure of safety to bikers, walkers, joggers, etc., and to assist with any problems trail users might experience, such as flat tires, injuries, etc. During the month of September, CCP patrollers provided 154.25 patrol hours on the trails.
