Patrollers reported an individual lying on the ground at 13th and High. He told the patrollers that he had been assaulted by two individuals. The patrollers contacted CPD via 645-4545. The victim would not accept any medical attention. CPD Car 166 arrived on scene, as well as S-23. An assault report was taken.

5-07-08

Patrollers were in the area of Lane and Perry, when they reported hearing the sounds of an auto accident. The patrollers investigated the sound and advised that three vehicles had been involved in an accident. CPD Car 43 was notified of the situation. CPD Cars 43 and 41 responded to the scene. One of the drivers was cited for an assured clear distance ahead violation

Patrollers witnessed an individual get punched in the face in the area of 15th and High. The victim was able to get to his feet and walk to 1758 High, where he made contact with a CPD officer. The officer detained the individual who struck the victim and requested more police assistance. CPD Wagon 48, Car 40, and CPD walking crew responded to the scene. CPD Car 40 took and assault report. The patrollers provided Car 40 with a detailed account what they had witnessed. It was further discovered that the suspect had an active warrant. The suspect was then placed under arrest.

Patrollers reported two individuals kicking trash cans and yelling loudly in the area of 12th and High. CPD Car 43 was notified. Car 47 responded to the scene and charged both individuals for criminal mischief.

Patrollers reported a non-responsive individual in the area of 13th and High. CPD was notified via 645-4545. CPD Cars 46, 41, R-36, 42, 44 and Medic X-7 responded to the scene. Net Care was contacted, responded and transported the individual to Maryhaven.

Patrollers reported an unresponsive individual in the area of 8th and Michigan. CPD Car 44 was notified of the situation. CPD Cars 36, 47 and Medic X7 responded to the scene.Smelling salts were needed to arouse the individual. Car 36 escorted the individual to his residence.

Patrollers were flagged down by an individual at Dakota and Broad who stated that he had been assaulted by another individual and wished to file a report. The victim pointed out the assailant and the patrollers began to follow her, as they called for another unit to come and wait with the victim for the arrival of police. The assailant was never apprehended, but the assault report was taken by a CPD plainclothes officer.

Patrollers reported an auto accident in the area of Town and Davis. One of the vehicles left the scene while the other vehicle remained in the area. The patrollers reported that the driver who remained on the scene appeared to be intoxicated. CPD Car 8L1 was notified of the situation. CPD Cars 109, 80, 81, 82, and 8L1 responded to the scene. A field sobriety test was conducted and it was determined that the individual was not intoxicated. An auto accident report was taken.

Patrollers reported an individual inside an abandoned structure in the area of Chapel and Mead. CPD was notified via 645-4545. CPD Cars 85, 82, and 80 responded to the scene and the individual was placed under arrest for being inside an abandoned structure.

Patrollers were approached by an individual who requested medical attention in the area of Sullivant and Davis. The individual advised that he was cut with a knife during an argument. CPD Car 8L2 was notified of the situation. CPD Cars 80, 8L2, and CFD Medic 10 responded to the scene. The individual was transported to Mount Carmel West Hospital.

Patrollers reported a suspicious vehicle with a damaged steering column in the area of Glenwood and Broad. CPD was notified via 645-4545. A CPD radio technician ran a check on the vehicle’s license plate and reported that the vehicle had been reported stolen. CPD Car 8L1 responded to the scene. The vehicle was impounded and the patrollers cleared the scene having recovered a stolen vehicle.

Patrollers reported a female carrying a stop sign into a residence at 789 Rich. CPD was notified via 645-4545. CPD Car 83 responded to the scene and spoke with a male who was exiting the residence. The male advised that he hit the stop sign because he was avoiding bricks that were being thrown at his vehicle. Car 83 charged the male with failure to control.

5-26-08

Patrollers reported hearing a shotgun round fired from the rear of 27 Dakota. CPD Car 8L2 was notified of the situation. CPD Cars 8L2, S-8, 83, 80, and 81 responded to the scene. A male was located in the rear of the address in possession of a shotgun. Responding officers determined that the gunshot came from a vehicle passing through the area, and not the individual. Upon further investigation, the responding officers determined that the individual had possession of the shotgun in self-defense. No further action was taken.

5-28-08

Patrollers reported a suspicious vehicle with no license plates and unlocked doors at 145 Columbian. CPD was contacted via 645-4545. A CPD radio technician ran a check on the vehicle’s identification number, and reported that the vehicle was legally registered. The technician advised that a cruiser will be dispatched to the scene. CPD Car 190 responded to the scene. The vehicle was impounded and cited for failure to display tags.

What do these mean?

The CCP Trail & Parks Safety Program patrols the Columbus Recreation and Parks’ multi-use trail along the Olentangy River, as well as several of the City’s parks. Patrollers are out on the trail on mountain bikes five days a week (weather permitting) in order to provide an added measure of safety to bikers, walkers, joggers, etc., and to assist with any problems trail users might experience, such as flat tires, injuries, etc. During the month of May, CCP patrollers provided 256 patrol hours on the trails and in the parks; year-to-date total: 390.0.
