Call of the Month

Patrollers reported a hit and skip auto accident in the area of 13th and Pearl. The patrollers were able to advise OSU PD Car 302 who was in the area. OSU Car 11, CPD Cars 40 and R-42 responded to the area. The individual was detained in the area of Frambes and High. The suspect was charged with hit/skip and driving under the influence.

The CCP radio operator was approached by a male at 248 E. 11th Avenue who wanted to file an assault and robbery report. CPD Car 48 was notified. CPD Car 231 responded to the scene and took the report. No further action was taken.

7-23-11

Patrollers were approached by two males who were physically assaulted in the area of 17th and High. The Columbus Fire Department and the Columbus Police Department were notified via 221-2345 and 645-4545 respectively. Ohio State University and CPD Joint Patrol 1and CFD Medic 7 responded to the scene. Medic 7 treated both individuals and determined that one of the males needed to be transported to OSU Medical Center.

Patrollers reported a loud argument between a male and a female in the area of Yale and Town. CPD Car K9-2 was flagged down by the patrollers. CPD Cars 9082 responded to the scene. Responding officers diffused the argument. It was determined that the female had an active warrant. She was placed under arrest and transported to the Franklin County Correctional Facility.

Patrollers assisted the Columbus Fire Department in restraining a combative patient in front of 955 W. Broad. The patrollers assisted the Medics until the arrival of CPD.

7-19-11

Patrollers witnessed a male shoplift several items from a business in the area of Cypress and Capital. CPD was notified of the situation via 645-4545. Before the arrival of police, the individual dropped much of the stolen merchandise and fled the area. The patrollers collected the merchandise off the street and returned it to the business. CPD Car R-81 responded to the scene and took a theft report.

Patrollers were approached by a pedestrian in the area of Front and Main who advised the patrollers that her two children had gone missing. CPD was notified of the situation via 645-4545. CPD Car 161 responded to the scene and was able to locate the missing children. No further action was taken.

Patrollers reported that a female juvenile’s leg was stuck between the pipes of the water fountain in Bicentennial Park. The CCP radio operator contacted the Columbus Fire Department. CFD Heavy Rescue 2 responded to the scene, and was able to free the juvenile’s leg.

What do these mean?

The CCP Trail & Parks Safety Program patrols the Metro Parks Greenway trails along the Olentangy River, as well as the Alum Creek Trail. Patrollers are out on the trail on mountain bikes five days a week (weather permitting) in order to provide an added measure of safety to bikers, walkers, joggers, etc., and to assist with any problems trail users might experience, such as flat tires, injuries, etc. During the month of July, CCP patrollers provided 237.00 patrol hours on the trails.
