4-17-08

Patrollers reported an individual brandishing a machete during an argument at 14th and High. 645-4545 was contacted and Car 46 arrived on scene. The officer confiscated the weapon and ran a records check on the individual. An outstanding national felony warrant for failure to pay child support was grounds for the individual’s arrest.

4-04-08

Patrollers were approached by a Mount Carmel security officer in the area of Scott and Green, who requested that the patrollers monitor stolen goods in the area. A short time later, the patrollers reported that an individual was taking the goods. CPD was notified via 645-4545.The individual was then seen starting a fire. The Columbus Fire Department was notified. CPD Car 87, 83 and CFD Engine 10 responded to the area. The stolen goods were returned to Mount Carmel Hospital, and the individual was cited for starting the fire.

4-07-08

Patrollers reported a suspicious vehicle with a damaged steering column in front of an address on Sullivant. CPD Car 47 was notified. Car 47 ran a check on the vehicle’s license plate and reported that it was reported stolen. CPD Car 8L2 responded to the scene and lifted fingerprints off the vehicle. The vehicle was impounded and the patrollers cleared the scene having recovered a stolen vehicle.

4-13-08

While meeting with CPD 8L2 in Cody Park, the patrollers observed an individual driving a vehicle up State Street without its headlights on. The patrollers recognized the vehicle as the same one they had seen earlier in the evening, again without headlights on, on Dana Avenue. CPD 8L2 stopped the vehicle and conducted a field interview of the vehicle’s occupant. While being searched by officers, the individual fled from the scene, but tripped and fell and was apprehended by the officers. A records check revealed an outstanding assault warrant for domestic violence. He was arrested on that warrant as well as for falsification, no operator’s license and driving without headlights. Additionally, it was discovered that steering column on the vehicle had been "peeled", so the vehicle was impounded on suspicious of being stolen.

4-21-08

Patrollers reported a suspicious vehicle with a punched ignition parked behind a vacant property on Dakota. CPD was contacted via 645-4545. A radio technician ran a check on the license number and confirmed that the vehicle had been reported as stolen. Car 84 responded to the scene, along with a wrecker. The vehicle was towed to the impound lot. The patrollers cleared the scene having recovered a stolen vehicle.

What do these mean?

The CCP Trail & Parks Safety Program patrols the Columbus Recreation and Parks’ multi-use trail along the Olentangy River, as well as several of the City’s parks. Patrollers are out on the trail on mountain bikes five days a week (weather permitting) in order to provide an added measure of safety to bikers, walkers, joggers, etc., and to assist with any problems trail users might experience, such as flat tires, injuries, etc. During the month of April, CCP patrollers provided 134 patrol hours on the trails and in the parks.

Patrollers found a wallet containing an individual’s credit cards in the Park of Roses. CPD was contacted via 645-4545. The wallet was turned over to CPD Car 30.
