Downtown Columbus is now home to two beautiful new parks, Columbus Commons on the former site of the City Center Mall, and the Scioto Mile, a mile-long park along the Scioto River, running from Broad Street to Rich Street. The newly renovated Bicentennial Park at the south end of the Scioto Mile, is complete with interactive fountains, an amphitheatre, and a new restaurant. Along the river, there are fountains, benches, swings, chess boards, and plenty of beautiful landscaping features. The Columbus Commons Park features a carousel, lots of open green space, a place for outdoor concerts, two food vendors and activities for everyone.
Keeping people safe while using these brand new public spaces is paramount to their success. The City of Columbus is providing support to Community Crime Patrol for a new team of patrollers to patrol an area downtown that includes the new parks as well as Genoa Park on the west side of the Scioto River and North Bank Park, near the Arena District. The patrollers are out from 5 pm to 1 am every day of the week, in conjunction with multiple safety forces present Downtown, the area is patrolled 24/7.
